REMEMBRANCE
Our branch participated, along with other organisations in our community, at today's Remembrance Service at St Mary's Church.

THANKS TO MARY SMITH OF GROWING WELL
Who spoke to us in March about her background in rural and food development led her to her current role of Chief Executive at Growing Well, the Kendal based charity where she helps to make the organisation more sustainable.
It is here that adults who are experiencing mental ill health flourish in the calm and caring environment that nature and Growing Well provide.

During February Sarah Jane Nielsen, Director of Nielsen House, the internationally renowned interior designers based in the Lake District, shared her fascinating journey with us and also some interior design tips.

LAKELAND FARM VISIT
LAKELAND FARM VISIT
We were fortunate to have enjoyed an exclusive summer evening out at the Lakeland Farm Visitor Centre at Ings.
Set in stunning Lakeland countryside we were welcomed by Kerrie and Isaac, who gave an unique farm arena talk, an area designed in the style of a traditional Auction Mart.
The competition was won by Shirley Boyd who created a stunning three-dimensional cow!

Making a Difference
MEMBERS' GARDEN PARTY
We had a great time earlier this summer in a truly stunning location overlooking Ruskin's View.
The weather was very kind to us as we basked in sunshine and enjoyed our cups of tea and the most wonderful homemade cakes. Thank you to all of you who made cakes, traybakes and scones for our special occasion. The cake table was groaning!
Thank you also to all who contributed bottles for the tombola which was enormously successful - the stall that was never without a long queue!
So thank you for attending and supporting our fundraising garden party, for supporting our WI and our endeavours to support others and in this instance fundraise for The Brow and Ruskin's View. Mike Burchnall and Marie Batty from the fundraising committee were presented with a cheque for a staggering £280.
I think we can all agree it was a huge success. Do look out for the super photographs on social media.
Thank you.

Centenary of the
Cumbria Westmorland Federation of WIs
To commemorate the centenary of the Cumbria Westmorland Federation of WIs, each WI was asked to create a panel symbolising their branch and its location.
Our wonderful panel, which was created by Chrissy Davis, was shown alongside the other branches' designs as part of a display at the Westmorland County Show and can be viewed above.

MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL 2021
Dear KLWI Members
We hope you are keeping safe.
We have been reminded in the recent CWFWI newsletter or AKL, that our 2021 membership subscriptions will be due by 1st April.
This includes the three-month extension on last year’s subs as granted by the National Federation.
We wanted to share some good news that in addition to this, the National Federation has now granted branches the discretion to set their own subscription fees. So, after giving this our consideration, our Committee has approved a £10 discount on this year's subs for our branch.
The full membership fee will be reduced from £44 to £34.00 (dual membership reduced to £11.60).
Please note that £22 of this reduced fee will still be allocated to NF and CWFWI – this proportion has not been reduced.
To pay your subscription fees please could you make your cheque payable to Kirkby Lonsdale WI
and deliver/post to:
Either
Patsy Fabian, the WI Treasurer.
Or
The Kirkby Lonsdale WI
C/O 36 Fairgarth Drive,
Kirkby Lonsdale, Carnforth LA6 2FB
It would be greatly appreciated if this could be done before 1st April.
If you have any queries please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Many thanks,
Amanda Deaville, Secretary.

NEWS 2021
One Woman Farm
4 MARCH 2020
Our grateful thanks go to Alison O’Neill, shepherdess, designer and author from Shacklabank Farm, Sedbergh, for her inspirational talk at our last meeting, to a packed audience.

Alison gave a heart-warming yet heart-breaking insight into her rich and courageous life story. How she cares for her flock, fashions their wool and leads guided walks around the beautiful countryside, all of which compounds her belief in ‘Wool is my bread’.
COMPETITION: You can view the winning competition entries on our 'Competition' page.

THANK YOU TO
GARETH MARSHALL, DIRECTOR
BATH HOUSE
We would like to express our gratitude to Gareth Marshall, Director of THE BATH HOUSE.
Gareth gave a very entertaining yet fascinating insight into his business and the world of the sense of smell and scent. Who would have thought it can take up to three years to get the fragrance of a new perfume, just right!
As Gareth waived his speaker’s fee, KLWI have made a donation to the NORTH WEST AIR AMBULANCE, which was very gratefully received.
It was great to see so many at our meeting with 73 attending ... a packed house.
THANK YOU TO
SARAH PEEL, PROPRIETOR
COOLCRAFTING, KENDAL
We would like to express our gratitude to Sarah Peel, founder of COOLCRAFTING, for the fascinating and inspirational talk she gave to Kirkby Lonsdale Women's Institute's members at our December event.
Sarah introduced us to her fabulous creations, ‘Luna Lapin and Friends’ and spoke of her entrepreneurship and her foray into the world of publishing.
